Trump explained that this meeting was meant to pave the way for a second one, potentially involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He described this upcoming meeting as “very, very important” because it would present an opportunity to reach a deal. Trump noted that the follow-up discussion would likely involve “give and take” on boundary and land issues.

Comparing the process to “a chess game,” Trump reiterated that Friday’s meeting was primarily about setting the stage for the next one, with a 25% chance it might not be successful.
