In an exclusive interview posted on Feed4Gamer, Yoshi-P confirmed that while the game can launch on new platforms to make it accessible to more players, from a gamer’s standpoint, there is no need for these new systems. He highlighted that people are generally satisfied with the current-generation consoles, and price likely plays a significant role in this sentiment.

Yoshida also discussed PlayStation 4 support for Final Fantasy XIV, which will continue as long as possible but is expected to be dropped eventually due to OS and hardware limitations that restrict data. Sony Interactive Entertainment has increased these limits for Final Fantasy XIV, but the developers have been informed that they are reaching their limit. Therefore, the end of support for the PlayStation 4 version may be on the horizon.

Despite many not feeling the need for the next-generation consoles, both Sony and Microsoft are expected to introduce systems with unique features. While Microsoft seems to be going for a modular design that offers flexibility similar to pre-built gaming PCs, Sony is reportedly releasing a home console capable of delivering up to 10 times the ray tracing performance of the base PlayStation 5 and a handheld device able to run current-generation games natively.
