Qualcomm entered the personal computing industry with its Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus last year. At the latest Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm’s CEO, Cristiano Amon, discussed a new project alongside Google’s Senior Vice President of Devices and Services, Rick Osterloh. The possibility of a PC powered by Android is in the works, as both executives made positive remarks about it without providing many details.
During the keynote, Amon and Osterloh talked about the future of computing, focusing on combining the strengths of PCs and smartphones. While no product name or specifications were given, the hardware would likely feature Snapdragon chipsets. Amon expressed excitement about the collaboration, saying he had seen something “incredible” that delivered on the vision of convergence between mobile and PC.
Osterloh highlighted how Google’s Gemini models and full stacks can enter the PC space, serving millions of users. He emphasized how Android can serve everyone in every computing category by leveraging the AI stack and applications from its developer community.
Qualcomm and Google are working together to ensure an efficient merger between Android and Chrome OS. The smartphone platform has already demonstrated potential for desktop use with improved window management and support for external monitors.
Despite years of Android’s existence on tablets, it was only a matter of time before it expanded to other platforms. Unfortunately, no timeline was provided for when the new product would be available, so fans will have to wait with bated breath.
