On August 5, Republicans on the House Oversight Committee announced that they have issued subpoenas to a number of top Democrats and former federal law enforcement leaders to testify in their probe into Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking case. This includes former President Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton (former Secretary of State), as well as former FBI Director James Comey and former U.S. Attorney General William Barr.
The committee seeks testimony “related to horrific crimes perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein,” according to Rep. James Comer, chairman of the committee. The subpoenas also order the Department of Justice to provide records related to Epstein.
The probe covers allegations that Democrats “weaponized” the government against President Donald Trump, including investigating his alleged collusion with Russia in the 2016 election. Specific dates for testimony include:
– Hillary Clinton: October 9
– Bill Clinton: October 14
– Merrick Garland (former U.S. Attorney General): October 2
– William Barr (former U.S. Attorney General): August 18
– Alberto Gonzales (former U.S. Attorney General): August 26
– Jeff Sessions (former U.S. Attorney General): August 28
– Robert Mueller (former FBI Director): September 2
– Loretta Lynch (former U.S. Attorney General): September 9
– Eric Holder (former U.S. Attorney General): September 30
These subpoenas aim to provide more information on Epstein and the government’s response to his crimes, answering calls from lawmakers and voters for transparency.
