The success of the first-generation Mate XT meant that a successor was inevitable. Just before Apple officially unveils its iPhone 17 lineup, Huawei has announced its second-generation tri-fold flagship smartphone, the Mate XTs. Since critics praised the original device for being revolutionary, many features have been carried over to this new model. However, Huawei has introduced an upgraded chipset and a hefty starting price.
The Mate XTs boasts a massive 10.2-inch LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 3,184 x 2,232 pixels in a 16:11 aspect ratio. It features a peak brightness of 1,800 nits and supports a refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 90Hz for better battery life. Users can adjust the screen size to either 7.9 inches or 6.4 inches for single-handed use.
The new chipset is the Kirin 9020, which is slightly more powerful than the Kirin 9010 used in the first-generation tri-fold flagship. However, it’s unclear if Huawei made any changes to the silicon itself, as it still uses the original 7nm lithography and CPU cluster.

The Mate XTs runs on Huawei’s proprietary HarmonyOS 5, which is less resource-intensive on hardware, ensuring a smooth user experience. It retains the same 5,600mAh battery from the first model but supports faster charging: 66W wired, 50W wireless, and 7.5W reverse wireless.
In terms of camera specifications, the second-generation tri-fold smartphone features an 8MP front shooter and a rear configuration including a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide-angle unit, and another 12MP telephoto lens with up to 5.5x lossless zoom capabilities.
The base model of the Mate XTs with 16GB RAM and 256GB internal memory starts at CNY 17,999 or $2,520. The 512GB variant is listed for CNY 19,999 or $2,800, while the 1TB version costs CNY 21,999 or $3,080.
