The camp, founded by influencer Liv Schreiber in 2023, is designed for women to unplug and form lifelong friendships. For $884, up to 450 women joined from September 26-28, enjoying farm-to-table meals, nightly themed parties, and exclusive swag bags.
Upon arrival, I met friendly women who seemed eager to connect before we even left Manhattan. The camp’s amenities included a covered pavilion called the “La Croix Lounge,” dance classes, and colorful decorations like a pastel-colored block letter spelling out CAMP SOCIAL.
Schreiber emphasizes that Camp Social is unique because it caters exclusively to women, providing an escape for inner child without the typical camp discomforts. Activities ranged from charcuterie happy hours to Pilates sessions, encouraging relaxation and genuine connections.
The weekend felt like a second chance at childhood camp, with women of all ages inviting passersby to join them at meals and participate in activities. Schreiber herself grew up in summer camps, finding social connection there crucial for self-expression and friendship.
By Saturday afternoon, the camp offered a packed schedule of optional early riser activities like archery, climbing, and line dancing. Each day also featured arts and crafts, fitness classes, and outdoor adventures, all aimed at fostering new friendships.
Val Gearhart, 42, arrived with nervousness but found joy in connecting with others. The older women, particularly those in their 40s and above, formed strong bonds, highlighting the importance of social connection across ages.
Despite its influencer-centric branding, Camp Social attracted a diverse crowd. Schreiber offered an “influencer experience” through branded samples, yet the lasting friendships formed seemed more significant than the marketing.
By the weekend’s end, I had joined multiple group chats and received many messages on Instagram, suggesting that the bonds made at Camp Social indeed last.
