Later, we learned about the project from Epic Games Executive Vice President Saxs Persson:
“Disney wants a persistent place where all things Disney can be present, but they want it integrated into an ecosystem we’ve built. The key is the interoperability of ecosystems. From a player perspective, you should be able to flow between a Fortnite experience and a Disney experience. This interoperability is what makes this project special.”
Now, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal, anonymous sources within Epic claim that collaboration with Disney is slow due to numerous signoffs required from various divisions before proceeding. The project is codenamed Bulldog.
However, Tim Sweeney, founder and president of Epic Games, refuted these claims on X:
“The anonymous quote is false. The speed of collaborations between Disney and Epic, like the one for Darth Vader, has been exceptional and 10 times faster than typical media company dealings in this industry. We even provided a statement to the author of this article to that effect, but it was not included.”
Sweeney did not address the report’s claim that the Fortnite x Disney project is targeting a release window as early as Fall 2026.
