For several years, it has been clear that the release of Hollow Knight Silksong would be a significant event for indie game fans and the video game industry. Given that Hollow Knight is one of the most successful indie games ever, its sequel is highly anticipated. Now, with just days until its September 4 release date, other indie developers are delaying their own upcoming releases to give Silksong room to shine.
A day after Team Cherry announced the release date for Hollow Knight Silksong, two studios—Panik Arcade and Aeternum Game Studios—delayed their own upcoming titles. Since then, at least five more delays have been reported, with each studio aiming to avoid competing with Silksong’s visibility in the market.
**Baby Steps**, one of the most high-profile games to delay its release, was originally set for September 8 but now launches on September 23, 2025. Developed by Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennet Foddy, Baby Steps is known for games like QWOP, Getting Over It, and Ape Out. The developers decided to delay the game to avoid overshadowing Silksong.
**Demonschool**, a persona-inspired tactical RPG from developer Necrosoft Games and publisher Ysbryd Games, was originally scheduled for September 3 but is now set for November 19, 2025. Ysbryd Games stated that aiming for visibility during the same period as Silksong would not be beneficial.
**Faeland**, an early access adventure RPG from Talegames, exited early access on September 9 but has delayed its full release date to a later time.
**Little Witch in the Woods**, developed by Sunny Side Up, was initially set for September 4 but has now been rescheduled to September 15. The developers apologized for the delay and promised to make the wait worthwhile.
Lastly, **Stomp and the Sword of Miracles**, a demo that was supposed to launch alongside Silksong on September 4, has also delayed its release date to an unspecified future date.
In total, at least seven games have been delayed specifically to avoid competing with Hollow Knight Silksong. While most of these games are not directly related to platforming, the strong belief in Silksong’s ability to capture indie game players’ attention for weeks beyond its release demonstrates just how significant this event is.
