Under new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Intel is experiencing a significant exodus of key engineers due to the cancellation of ambitious projects. According to reports from Korean media outlet ChosunBiz, many of these experts and renowned employees are switching to Samsung. The company’s primary goal now is to boost shareholder value by eliminating resource-intensive projects that haven’t yielded viable returns. CEO Tan noted there was “no more room for ‘blank checks,'” leading to the cancellation of several projects and investments.
Intel’s long-term vision towards developing advanced semiconductors has been shifted to a shorter timeline, particularly affecting projects like glass substrates. As Samsung is more focused on semiconductor ambitions with its US production shift, Intel’s key engineers are now moving to competitors. For instance, an Intel expert who worked on glass substrates for nearly 25 years recently joined Samsung.
Whether this current approach will benefit the company remains uncertain. However, competing firms are actively pursuing Intel’s talent.
