The flagship Granite Rapids processor has seen a significant price drop since its launch last year, now sitting at just over $6,000.

Newegg Lists Xeon 6 6980P “Octacosahecta-core” Processor for Just $6,190; The Processor Carries Intel’s Recommended Price Tag of $12,460 and Offers 128-Core/256-Thread Configuration

At the time of launch, the flagship 128-core Xeon 6 6980P Granite Rapids processor used to cost $17,800. This price was already 50% higher than the flagship Emerald Rapids processor. However, the processor underwent a significant price cut early this year, dropping its MSRP to just $12,460. It has now dropped even further, with a new record low of almost half of its original price at major retailers such as Newegg.

Newegg is currently listing the processor for $6,190, which is a significant discount from its original price. The processor remains in stock and offers up to 3.9 GHz of boost clock, 504 MB of L3 cache, and a TDP rating of 500W. It’s part of the Xeon 6900P family, which includes the flagship 128-core/256-thread chip.

According to Intel, this processor can deliver 87% faster server performance than AMD’s EPYC 9755 and up to 5.5X faster AI inference than the EPYC 9005 series. Despite being a strong processor, its price cut might be due to lower demand as AMD has been gaining more server market share recently. In Q2 2025, AMD’s desktop Ryzen CPUs saw a massive market share increase from 23% to 32.2%, compared to the same period in 2024.

Despite AMD’s claims of superiority in offering the best performance chips across segments, it is clear from sales data that Intel faces lower demand for its Xeon processors. In Germany, the processor has been dropping in price close to 6,000 Euros as well. A steep decline was seen in May when the CPU dropped from over 16,000 Euros down to just €7,000. Another noticeable price cut occurred in June, and since then, it has remained steadily around €6,000.
