Just ahead of Apple’s September 9 launch event, details on the battery capacities for the iPhone 17 lineup—featuring the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max—have been leaked by a Chinese regulatory database. Previously, we heard about bigger batteries, but now it’s clear that Apple will offer different capacities based on whether the model has physical SIM card slots or not.
Chinese Regulatory Leak Reveals iPhone 17 Battery Upgrades
The news was shared by leaker ShrimpApplePro on X. The data distinguishes between versions with and without the physical SIM card tray, which Apple may phase out in countries other than the United States. While Apple hasn’t confirmed the battery capacities yet, they appear quite convincing.
Here are the details:
– **iPhone 17 Air:**
– With SIM card tray: 3,036 mAh
– Without SIM card tray: 3,149 mAh
– **iPhone 17 Pro:**
– With SIM card tray: 3,988 mAh
– Without SIM card tray: 4,252 mAh
– **iPhone 17 Pro Max:**
– With SIM card tray: 4,823 mAh
– Without SIM card tray: 5,088 mAh
The iPhone 17 is expected to feature a single capacity of 3,692 mAh, but it’s unclear whether this applies to the model with or without the SIM card tray. These numbers suggest that Apple will eliminate physical SIM card options, as seen in past trends. The extra battery capacity is due to freed-up internal space, and notably, the iPhone 17 Pro Max surpasses the 5,000 mAh mark by 8 percent compared to the current iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 17 Air has the thinnest battery capacity of both versions. To manage the smaller cell, Apple will need additional mechanisms and plans to use its in-house C1 modem chip alongside the A19 Pro chip with a 5-core GPU.
Apple is expected to announce all iPhone 17 models tomorrow at their ‘Awe Dropping’ event along with new Apple Watch and AirPods. We’ll be covering this event in detail, so stay tuned.
