The iPhone 17 family began mass production earlier this month, with Foxconn offering bonuses to employees in an effort to meet Apple’s high targets. The company has planned several countries for the initial release, with the U.S. being a top priority followed by China. However, South Korea, home of Samsung, is also included as Apple aims to capture some market share.
New details reveal that pre-orders in South Korea will commence shortly after the iPhone 17 launch on September 9. Following the success of last year’s launch of the iPhone 16 series in South Korea, Apple plans to repeat this strategy with the iPhone 17. According to Herald Corp, pre-orders will start on September 12, and the official release is expected on September 19.
There was debate within the industry about whether South Korea would be among the first countries to receive the initial iPhone 17 shipment batch. Given that Samsung dominates the market, with sales reaching 82 percent from January to July this year (as reported by Counterpoint Research), South Korea holds significant importance for Apple and could potentially see millions of units sold.
However, some industry insiders predict that the iPhone 17 launch might not be as successful as expected. This is not due to a lack of features but rather because Apple will likely raise prices due to tariffs, which consumers may find too costly, leading to lower sales. To mitigate price increases, analysts suggest that Apple could introduce storage upgrades, similar to what was done with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
