China’s CPU manufacturer, Loongson Technology, recently announced progress on its newly launched 3C6000 series processors designed for the server market. In an investor relations update, the company confirmed that their system-level cooperation with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) is going well and that they will mass ship the 3C6000 CPUs next year.
The 3C6000 CPU series offers cost-effective performance, making it a competitive alternative to domestic server processors. Loongson showcased the capabilities of this family, which can match Intel’s 3rd-gen Xeon and the Xeon Platinum 8380 processors in terms of performance. Although the 3C6000 is not designed to compete with modern Intel or AMD server CPUs, its cost-effectiveness ensures that OEMs can obtain powerful CPUs without relying on foreign licenses.
Loongson plans to mass ship the 3C6000 series next year as it continues to improve the smooth integration with OEMs. The 3C6000 family includes three CPU models: a single chiplet offering 16 cores, a dual chiplet model with 32 cores, and a quad chiplet option for high-end markets.
These processors are suitable for general computing, industrial control, and workstations. Since Loongson uses its own instruction set architecture, it does not need to rely on foreign authorization or an overseas supply chain. The company claims that the 3C6000 is comparable to processors from 2023-2024, providing decent mid-range products for customers.
