AirTags led police to a suspect hiding in luggage at Los Angeles International Airport, turning a potential nightmare into a happy ending. A West Hollywood man, Daniel Scott, had placed an AirTag inside his suitcase before boarding his flight from Salt Lake City. He used the Find My app to track the bag’s location and saw it heading towards the ride-share area. Despite chasing the suspect, who was faster, Scott followed the AirTag’s signal to an abandoned building near the airport.
The LAX police were called and found the suitcase inside, with clothes scattered in multiple rooms and a person wearing Scott’s clothes at the door. Both the police and Scott arrested the suspect and recovered most of the clothing safely. Scott told NBC Los Angeles that everyone should use AirTags for peace of mind but recommends involving authorities instead of handling such matters personally.
This is not the first time AirTags have helped find lost or stolen items at airports. Previously, an AirTag saved a magician’s suitcase and was used to recover another traveler’s $15,000 worth of stolen clothing, with LAXPD involved in both cases. Apple’s AirTags are small and can be hidden anywhere, making them essential for frequent travelers. They provide peace of mind by tracking the location of your items at all times. We will share more details as they become available.
