Getting access to a Nintendo Switch 2 developer kit involves adhering to strict guidelines designed to ensure that games bring clear value to the platform.

According to Doctre81 in a recent YouTube video, partner LynxByte Games recently shared new information on Nintendo’s current guidelines for accessing a Nintendo Switch 2 dev kit. Simply porting an existing game from the original system or any format does not automatically grant publishing rights on the new system. Every game, even from established partners, must be individually approved. Approval is only given to games that demonstrate the capabilities of the new system by utilizing its features, such as 4K support at 60 frames per second or up to 120 FPS at 1440p resolution in docked mode, implementing GameChat and mouse controls, supporting HD Rumble 2.0 and GameShare, among other features. Developers must also clearly outline how their titles add value to the platform by leveraging these features and provide a detailed release plan.

LynxByte Games also revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 supports NVIDIA DLSS 3.1. While the version number doesn’t necessarily indicate much due to the different components of the upscaler, it was speculated that the system used some lightweight version of NVIDIA’s technology with no direct correspondence to the various versions seen in PC games. This confirmation could be interesting for several reasons, although the upscaler is not being widely utilized by first-party titles.
