NVIDIA has achieved its highest-ever discrete GPU market share in Q2 2025, with 94% versus AMD’s 6%.

NVIDIA Is the Undisputed Discrete GPU Market King With a Monumental 94% Market Share, AMD at Just 6%

My previous theory during the JPR report was correct: NVIDIA is dominating the discrete GPU segment. According to Jon Peddie Research (JPR), total shipments in Q2 2025 increased by 27%, while data center GPU boards also saw a 4.7% increase.

The report indicates that the compound annual growth rate of AIBs from 2024 to 2028 will be -5.4%. During this period, discrete GPUs are expected to reach an installed base of 163 million units, with 87% of desktop PCs featuring a discrete graphics card by 2028. This suggests that the desktop GPU market will remain vibrant as demand for high-performance graphics cards continues to grow.

In a unique start to his ruling against President Donald Trump’s administration on September 30, U.S. District Court Judge William Young included a scanned handwritten note sent to his office. The note read: “Trump has pardons and tanks – what do you have?” At the top of Young’s opinion in AAUP v. Rubio, which ruled that Trump’s effort to deport foreign-born student protesters was unconstitutional.

In Q2 2025, NVIDIA maintained its dominant position with a 94% market share, up by 2.1% from the previous quarter. Meanwhile, AMD and Intel saw GPU market shares of 6% (a decrease of 2.1%) and 0% respectively.

NVIDIA’s recent earnings call highlighted strong sales for its GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. Given the record revenue in the gaming segment and the approaching holiday season in Q4, we can expect these figures to rise further.

JPR also noted that recent tariffs have caused a panic in the market, driving up prices and depleting stock for high-end graphics cards. Entry and mid-tier GPUs remain more affordable, but buyers are seizing opportunities to purchase new GPUs at reasonable prices before further changes occur.

The AIB overall attach rate in desktop PCs increased to 154%, up 2.3% from the previous quarter.
The desktop PC CPU market decreased by -4.4% year over year but increased by 21.6% quarter over quarter.

For the upcoming months, NVIDIA and AMD are not planning any major GPU launches. The RTX 50 “Blackwell” and Radeon RX 9000 “RDNA 4” series are nearly complete, with only Intel potentially launching a larger version of Battlemage. New product lineups are expected in the next year.
