After securing necessary regulatory approvals, NVIDIA will invest $5 billion in Intel’s common stock at $23.28 per share. The partnership follows attention from SoftBank and the Trump administration towards Intel. This move indicates a growing inclination towards American chip manufacturers.
Intel will build NVIDIA-custom x86 CPUs for data centers that will be integrated into NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure platforms. For personal computing, Intel will develop and offer to the market x86 system-on-chips (SoCs) with integrated RTX GPU chiplets. These new SoCs are designed to power high-end PCs requiring both top-tier CPUs and GPUs.
The specifics of these products remain unclear, but it appears that a joint venture in computing products is the primary focus. Despite Intel’s recent challenges with its x86 product line, the company remains dominant in adopting this architecture. Given NVIDIA’s leadership in graphics technology, combined products could be highly impactful. Updates on details will be provided as they emerge.
