NORTH CODORUS TOWNSHIP, PA – On September 17, three police officers were fatally shot and two others were injured while responding to a domestic disturbance. A gunman killed himself at the scene in North Codorus Township, a rural area about 10 miles outside York, Pennsylvania.
The incident occurred during an investigation that was “domestic related,” according to Col. Christopher Paris, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner. He did not specify which agencies the officers belonged to, citing a request from the district attorney’s office.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro visited the scene after the tragedy and expressed his condolences: “This is an absolutely tragic and devastating day. We grieve for the loss of life for the three precious souls who served this commonwealth.”
Shapiro also asked that people keep in mind the families of the victims. “I hope, as this community comes together, that we think not just about those who wear the uniform, but those behind them,” he said.

Northern Regional Police Officers and members of the York County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the shooting. “The people of the City of York send our respect and condolences to the families of our fallen and wounded Northern Regional Police Officers and York County Sheriffs,” Mayor Michael Helfrich stated.
York County Office of Emergency Management public information officer Ted Czech reported that emergency personnel were responding to the scene, which was first reported to 911 around 2:10 p.m. local time. The incident remains an active scene with numerous police and EMS units present.
Attorney General Dave Sunday, Attorney General Pamela Bondi, and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) personnel were also at the scene to support local law enforcement.
