Phison controller-based SSDs have reportedly been affected by the latest cumulative updates, specifically KB5063878 and KB5062660. These updates are reported to cause SSD failures when writing large numbers of files. We previously highlighted this issue two days ago, mentioning that several models such as Corsair Force MP600, SanDisk Extreme Pro, Maxio SSD, and others have been affected. Phison, which uses the PS5012-E12 controller, is one of the companies impacted by these latest security updates.
Most reports came from Japanese users, but numerous SSD models are experiencing issues. Phison has acknowledged the problem, stating that it affects users running a Phison controller-based SSD, particularly those using the PS5012-E12.
Phison issued the following statement:
> “We have recently become aware of the industry-wide effects of the ‘KB5063878’ and ‘KB5062660’ updates on Windows 11 that potentially impacted several storage devices, including some supported by Phison. We understand the disruption this may cause and are in close contact with industry stakeholders.

> We remain committed to product integrity and the success of our partners and end users. Currently, we are reviewing which controller models are affected and working with partners to address these issues. We will continue to provide updates and advisories to support any necessary remediation.”

Phison is currently investigating which controller models are affected and likely testing crash/failure reports from SSD brands that use its controllers. It’s unlikely that Phison will directly offer public support, as it focuses on providing firmware updates and advisories to its partners.
In summary, while Phison has acknowledged the problem, resolving it will take time, and updates will be provided through partners. Until further notice, users are advised not to perform large write operations on affected SSDs.
