Phison has dismissed claims of its SSDs being bricked by the latest Windows 11 updates, following several hours of rigorous testing.
Reports of Windows 11 Bricking SSDs Might Be Part of a Hoax: Phison’s Testing Reveals No Issues
Following an initial investigation into reports about bricked SSDs under the latest Windows 11 update, Phison has now concluded that the reported issues cannot be reproduced. The company tested ‘KB5063878’ and ‘KB5062660’ updates for several hours on its solutions.
According to Phison, reports emerged of SSDs being bricked after these Windows 11 updates. Initially, Phison’s SSDs were targeted, but later, more brands faced similar issues. The company swiftly responded and debunked false propaganda, including fake documents shared with partners and customers.

Phison tested its SSDs for over 4,500 cumulative hours and conducted more than 2,200 test cycles. Despite these efforts, the company could not reproduce the reported issues. Neither Phison nor its partners or customers have reported any problems affecting their SSDs.
The company also issued a “Best Practices” guide for users, recommending proper heatsinks and thermal pads to maintain optimal operating temperatures and reduce the risk of thermal throttling. The full statement from Phison is as follows:
Phison was made aware of potential issues with ‘KB5063878’ and ‘KB5062660’ updates on Windows 11 that could impact several storage devices, including those supported by Phison. Over 4,500 cumulative testing hours were dedicated to drives reported as potentially impacted, and more than 2,200 test cycles were conducted. No issues were reproduced, and no partners or customers have reported affected drives.
Phison remains committed to reliability and continues to monitor the situation with industry partners.
Best Practices for End Users
While validation testing has not identified concerns related to these Windows 11 updates, we advise using proper heatsinks or thermal pads for extended workloads. Note that the initial reports may have been part of a larger agenda, given the circulation of fake documents targeting Phison’s customers. It is possible that users who reported issues were overworking their SSDs without proper cooling or removed heatsinks.
The clear takeaway from Phison’s testing is that there are no issues with its SSDs under these Windows 11 updates. Follow the best practices guide to ensure your high-performance SSDs remain cool and perform optimally.
