Leaks and rumors about the PlayStation 6 (PS6) have surged recently. Last Friday, YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead shared estimates of the PS6’s rasterization performance, suggesting it would be three times faster than the base PlayStation 5, placing it at roughly the level of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4080. Later, the same YouTuber commented that the PS6 would deliver five to ten times higher ray-tracing performance during specific operations compared to the base PS5.
Now, according to AMD insider KeplerL2, the PS6 will perform similarly to the current flagship GPU from AMD, the Radeon RX 9070 XT. In contrast, the next-generation Xbox is predicted to be slightly more powerful, akin to NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5080. Both consoles are expected to run on AMD’s RDNA 5 architecture, which KeplerL2 describes as the largest architectural overhaul since the Graphics Core Next (GCN) era. Moreover, the insider claims that this new architecture will offer even more features than NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell architecture.
The prediction regarding the next-generation Xbox is intriguing because Moore’s Law Is Dead had previously suggested that Microsoft’s upcoming console, powered by the Magnus APU, would be less powerful than the PS6. Despite this, Microsoft promised its fans a year and a half ago that the next console would deliver “the largest technical leap ever” seen in a hardware generation.
Given that these consoles are still two to three years away, official specs might not be available for some time. However, we will continue to report on credible leaks and rumors as they emerge.
