Next month, Apple is scheduled to unveil its iPhone 17 series. The ‘Pro’ models will feature a distinctive design change with a large camera bump that covers the rear camera array and a significant portion of the backside. Similarly, Samsung reportedly plans to adopt this design for its Galaxy S26 Ultra. This move is likely due to upcoming camera upgrades that were long-awaited, necessitating sufficient space without resorting to excessively large bumps.
Samsung has generally maintained consistent camera hardware on its Galaxy S Ultra series for years. However, the Galaxy S26 Ultra might mark a departure from this tradition as it needs significant camera improvements. Samsung avoids adding new camera hardware due to high costs and reduced profit margins. Instead, they enhance image quality through software updates and computational advancements. Yet, there comes a point where hardware upgrades become necessary.
According to Newsis, sensor sizes are increasing, forcing manufacturers to use larger bumps or introducing massive ones like Apple’s to maintain aesthetic harmony. Samsung’s decision to add a similar bump suggests the Galaxy S26 Ultra will come with impressive camera enhancements. There is also speculation that it might include a camera island housing multiple sensors for ultimate versatility.
Previously reported, Samsung plans not to upgrade the battery capacity of the Galaxy S26 Ultra but aims to increase its wired charging speed from 45W to 60W. While this change is welcome, a larger battery cell remains a wish among many consumers. Fortunately, Samsung might compensate by introducing noteworthy camera upgrades. As we approach the launch date next year, more details about these specifications will likely be revealed. Stay tuned for further updates.
