Samsung is preparing to launch its next flagship device, the Galaxy S26, which could significantly enhance its video recording capabilities. A recent leak suggests that Samsung might introduce an advanced professional video feature called APV (Advanced Pro Video codec) and LUT (Look-Up Table) profiles. These features are designed to challenge Apple’s dominance in mobile videography.
The Advanced Pro Video feature will allow for high-quality video recordings without compromising on file size, offering both flexibility and fidelity—crucial for professional filmmakers. The LUT profile enables users to apply professional color grading directly within the app, reducing the need for post-production software and providing more creative control.
Traditionally, Samsung has focused on hardware improvements but is now working on advanced video recording features that could intensify competition with Apple. The S26 series aims to move beyond raw specifications towards a more professional workflow, similar to what Apple is known for. Given that the iPhone 17 Pro has gained popularity due to its ProRes recording and integration with Final Cut Pro, many professionals appreciate its seamless workflows.
In contrast, Samsung seems to be focusing on providing greater creative freedom. The Galaxy S26 targets users who value flexibility and experimentation. It aims not only to match but also surpass Apple in video quality and customization features.
We are witnessing a significant shift in mobile photography and videography, with major players like Samsung and Apple emphasizing better cameras and more control through creator-centric features. Samsung appears determined to push the boundaries with the upcoming Galaxy S26, aiming to challenge Apple’s dominance by offering advanced cinematic video grading capabilities.
