According to industry sources, SK Hynix received unit prices for HBM4 12-layer products from NVIDIA in the $500 range during the first half of the year. This price is approximately 60-70% more than the $300 pricing for HBM3E 12-layer products.
SK Hynix’s early supply to NVIDIA, especially for the Blackwell Ultra project using 12-Hi HBM3E stacks, gave the company a significant advantage over competitors like Samsung and Micron. However, the higher prices reflect the complexity of manufacturing HBM technology.
While SK Hynix enjoys these advantages, other companies such as Samsung and Micron are becoming more competitive with their solutions. Recently, Samsung has made considerable progress with 1c DRAM technology, which could potentially allow them to enter NVIDIA’s supply chain for HBM4. This development suggests that the competition for HBM4 dominance will be much fiercer in the future.
