Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit is scheduled for September 23, and the top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 has already begun appearing in benchmark databases. Recent tests showed it securing a massive score of over 3.8 million in AnTuTu, which was 40.7 percent higher than the fastest Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered flagship on the app’s list. The new SoC was also recently spotted running on Samsung’s ultra-slim Galaxy S26 Edge, achieving phenomenal results.
A closer look at the clock speeds reveals that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2’s performance cores were running at 4.00 GHz during testing. However, a more significant performance difference would be observed if these same cores ran consistently at 4.74 GHz. This improvement is likely due to Qualcomm’s move to TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process (N3P), which brings enhanced efficiency and allows for higher operating frequencies.
The Galaxy S26 Edge, with the model number SM-S947U, obtained single-core and multi-core scores of 3,393 and 11,515, respectively. The device featured Android 16 and had a ‘2 + 6’ CPU cluster like the Snapdragon 8 Elite, with its performance cores rated to operate at 4.74 GHz and efficiency cores clocked at 3.63 GHz.
The Galaxy S26 Edge also included 12 GB of RAM, which is impressive for such a sleek flagship. However, it should be noted that the six performance cores were not running at their default clock speeds. According to Abhishek Yadav’s in-depth analysis, these cores appeared to be running only at 4.00 GHz.
These figures suggest potential improvements if Samsung or Qualcomm had allowed the cores to run at their intended frequency of 4.74 GHz. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2’s performance is not indicative of thermal throttling since Geekbench 6 is not designed for measuring sustained performance.
Historically, Samsung devices have tended to achieve lower scores on Geekbench 6 than their competitors, despite using a slightly more powerful Snapdragon chipset. Hopefully, we will see some improvements when the Galaxy S26 Ultra is tested on the same benchmark.
