Xiaomi’s upcoming Xiaomi 17 Pro has surfaced on Geekbench, showcasing impressive performance numbers that hint at the true capabilities of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. These benchmark results indicate significant improvements over its predecessor and even rival Apple’s A19 Pro chipset.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Rivals Apple’s A19 Pro CPU While Showing Clear Improvements Over Snapdragon 8 Gen 4
According to the Geekbench listing (via Jukanlosreve), the Xiaomi 17 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 achieved scores of 3,831 in single-core and 11,525 in multi-core. For context, the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 averaged around 3,200 in single-core and 10,000 in multi-core, suggesting a 19% gain in single-core performance and a 15% increase in multi-core performance. Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro with A19 Pro scored roughly 3,850 in single-core and 11,000 in multi-core, placing Qualcomm’s latest chip on par with Apple in raw CPU power.
In real-world scenarios, these performance gains translate to faster app launches, smoother scrolling through social media feeds, and enhanced responsiveness when multitasking. Multi-core improvements will benefit tasks like photo or video editing of high-resolution content, compiling large files, or running games with demanding physics engines. The Xiaomi 17 Pro should feel noticeably quicker than last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 flagships, especially under intense loads.
However, the efficiency and thermal design of these chips remain to be seen; Apple’s A19 Pro potentially offers a better performance-per-watt ratio due to its optimized ecosystem. Furthermore, Apple still leads in hardware-software integration, which means that stock apps can leverage more from the A19 Pro chip.
Qualcomm has worked to minimize throttling, potentially offering higher frame rates and equivalent or even better battery life than its predecessor. These are early benchmarks, so real-world performance could vary depending on optimization and the specific device.
