In a unique start to his ruling against President Donald Trump’s administration on September 30, U.S. District Court Judge William Young included a scanned handwritten note sent to his office. The note read: “Trump has pardons and tanks – what do you have?” At the top of Young’s opinion in AAUP v. Rubio, which ruled that Trump’s effort to deport foreign-born student protesters was unconstitutional.

The telecom sector is witnessing increasing competition, prompting major carriers to seek ways to establish a strong position and differentiate themselves. Often, in their quest to expand products and services, companies can find themselves embroiled in controversies. This was the case with T-Mobile when it launched its REVVL 7 Pro 5G, a mid-range Android smartphone equipped with a large 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 1 processor. While the device boasts numerous features and supports 5G connectivity, its launch was marred by a regulatory issue: T-Mobile sold thousands of these phones without obtaining the necessary FCC equipment authorization.

T-Mobile’s REVVL 7 Pro 5G Met FCC Compliance Issues, and Here Is What You Need to Know

When T-Mobile launched the REVVL 7 Pro 5G, tech enthusiasts were excited about its feature-rich design at an affordable price point. However, what truly stood out was not the device itself but the issue of it going on sale before receiving FCC certification. In the U.S., any device that transmits radio frequencies must secure certification to ensure it does not cause harmful interference and meets technical standards.

T-Mobile received FCC approval on May 29, 2024, a week after the phones were already being sold to customers. This meant thousands of devices were released without the required authorization. The FCC launched an inquiry shortly after discovering that the phone was sold six days before receiving approval, on October 1, 2024. T-Mobile acknowledged the mistake and accepted responsibility, stating it had relied on its manufacturer, Wingtech, to ensure compliance.

As a consequence, T-Mobile agreed to complete the compliance program and paid $7,000 to the U.S. Treasury. Due to this admission and payment, the FCC terminated the investigation on September 11, 2025, resolving the regulatory issue. Although the penalty for non-compliance is relatively minor, it serves as a reminder that carriers must take regulatory requirements seriously to avoid legal troubles and maintain focus on their products and services.
