Lower VRAM appears to be the primary factor behind the RX 9070 GRE’s reduced appeal. Compared to its counterpart, the Radeon RX 9070 XT, which launched at 4999 Yuan (around US$700) and offers 4 GB more VRAM, the RX 9070 GRE is less attractive. It has only 12 GB of VRAM compared to the 16 GB on the XT, and it uses a significantly smaller die with fewer stream processors.
As noted by @unikoshardware, these factors have directly impacted sales. The current retail listings show that the RX 9070 GRE is now priced at around 3600 Yuan (about US$505), and even higher-end models are selling for approximately 3800 Yuan (US$533). This represents a drop of about $100 from its launch price, aimed at boosting sales.
AMD is reportedly considering increasing the VRAM to 16 GB on the RX 9070 GRE, but this might still be insufficient. The current model sees low sales among all RDNA 4 GPUs worldwide due to performance limitations from having only 3072 stream processors compared to the 4096 on the XT. A $100 price reduction may not fully compensate for these performance losses. Therefore, a pricing point of around US$449 or $479 might be more effective.
In summary, the Radeon RX 9070 GRE is struggling due to its lower VRAM and fewer stream processors, leading to significant price reductions in an attempt to boost demand.
