Two minutes past midnight on Monday, leaker SwitchForce, known for accurate claims about Nintendo events, suggested a new Nintendo Direct would take place next month—specifically, September 12, 2025. VideoGamesChronicle (VGC) later confirmed this report, stating that their sources indicate a Nintendo Direct in mid-September without specifying the exact date.
VGC noted that there has been a Nintendo Direct every September since the inception of these events, with the exception of last year. If SwitchForce’s reported date is correct and the Direct falls on September 12, it would occur one day before the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary celebration.
While previous leaks have accurately predicted dates for these events, early reports often lack accuracy regarding the scale of the event. It remains unclear whether this will be a full-scale general Nintendo Direct with news from both first and third-party developers or a focused showcase on a specific category, such as partners or independent games.
The most recent Nintendo Direct was dedicated to Kirby Air Riders, featuring a 45-minute presentation by Masahiro Sakurai. Prior to that, it was a Partner Showcase, followed by focused Directs on Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World.
Since the April unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, no general Nintendo Direct has been held. With three game-focused showcases and one partner showcase in recent months, there is anticipation for a larger, more comprehensive Direct to reveal upcoming plans for the rest of the year.
One notable announcement that could come from this Direct is the release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which was previously expected late in 2025. A playable demo was also presented at Gamescom 2025 and Fan Expo in Canada.
