Since launching last month, multiple reports have highlighted the Switch 2’s strong sales performance around the world, including in the United States. Four days after launch, the console had already sold 3.5 million units globally, more than double the original Nintendo Switch’s sales on launch day in 2017. The Switch 2 also broke records for US sales during its first week.
Piscatella’s June 2025 report confirms that the Switch 2 is leading in both unit and dollar sales in the US, surpassing even the PlayStation 5. However, the PS5 remains the best-selling hardware overall for 2025 so far. An impressive 82% of US buyers who purchased a Nintendo Switch 2 also bought Mario Kart World, either as part of the bundle or separately.
Other notable aspects of June 2025 sales charts include Elden Ring: Nightreign continuing to sell strongly and becoming the top-selling premium game in the US for that month. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach ranked second on the June 2025 sales charts but has not yet entered the top-20 best-selling games of the year. Stellar Blade, launched on PC, jumped from 185th place to fifth on overall sales charts.
The Switch 2’s success is unsurprising given its strong initial performance. Marketing analysis firm DFC Intelligence forecasts that it could sell up to 16 million units globally by year-end. Given this momentum, the Switch 2 is likely to reach these projections.
