The federal government froze these funds on June 30 to allow the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to review nearly $7 billion allocated for schools. Madi Biedermann, a deputy assistant secretary for communications at the White House, stated in an email that the OMB’s review is complete and the agency will begin disbursing funds next week.
On July 18, the Trump administration released over $1 billion of the paused funding to support after-school and summer learning programs. This release completes the review process.
The move comes after a period of anxiety among school leaders and increasing pressure from those concerned about the fall funding situation. Rep. Don Bacon, R-Nebraska, who championed the release of the frozen funds, posted on X: “All frozen education funding for the upcoming school year have been released, following my letter to the OMB!”
