This month, just before writing this article, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot cited the Star Wars IP as the reason for Star Wars Outlaws missing its sales targets. He stated that the Star Wars brand was “in choppy waters” at the time of Outlaws’ release. Now, a rumor has emerged suggesting that Ubisoft quietly canceled plans for a Star Wars Outlaws sequel.
The rumor comes from Tom Henderson and Insider-Gaming, who said in their podcast that Ubisoft “recently canceled Star Wars Outlaws 2.” They noted that the game was still in its early stages and had not yet entered full production. Mike Straw, senior editor at the site, jokingly suggested we might see it in seven years.
Henderson has previously accurately reported internal information about Ubisoft, but this claim remains unverified. Given Star Wars Outlaws’ struggles since launch, it’s not an unprecedented idea for Ubisoft to decide against a sequel. The game failed to meet sales expectations and underwent significant changes after its initial release due to player feedback. Its poor performance also delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows from 2024 until March 2025.
Since the game’s launch, Ubisoft has had little positive to say about it. It’s not surprising that leadership might have decided against a sequel despite considering one.
