Drones launched by Kyiv hit five Russian aircraft, including one Sukhoi Su-30SM fighter jet and two others, at an airfield in Saky, occupied Crimea. Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) reported that the attack also damaged three Sukhoi Su-24 bombers and struck an ammunition storage depot.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on these events.
The SBU claims this drone strike is part of Kyiv’s ongoing efforts to weaken Russia’s military capabilities in Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014. The attack occurred as Ukrainian drones also targeted the Tatsinskaya railway station near the Rostov Oblast border with Ukraine.
Simultaneously, Russian forces attacked Ukraine, killing at least nine civilians and injuring another 17 over the past day. They launched Iskander-M ballistic missiles from Bryansk Oblast and deployed up to 46 Shahed-type drones and decoy drones from Kursk, Bryansk, Orel, and Primorsk-Akhtarsk.
Ukraine reported that a drone strike in the Chuhuiv district southeast of Kharkiv killed three civilians overnight on Monday.
Ukraine’s security services stated, “The successful special operation of the SBU in Saky is another step toward weakening the enemy’s ability to wage a war of aggression against Ukraine. The occupiers must remember that they will never feel safe on our land!”
Speculation around a ceasefire continues as Moscow likely continues its bombardment of Ukrainian cities, while Kyiv steps up attacks on Russian military infrastructure.
President Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff is set to travel to Russia this week amid these developments.
