The Valve Fremont console is expected to use an AMD SoC codenamed “Fremont,” part of the Hawk Point 2 series, with 6 cores and 12 threads. Key specifications include:
– 6 Zen 4 CPU cores
– 16 MB L3 cache
– 6 MB L2 cache
– Base clock at 3.20 GHz, boost up to 4.80 GHz

For comparison, AMD’s Van Gogh devices for the Steam Deck OLED and Steam Deck feature a custom Aerith/Sephiroth SoC with 4 Zen 2 cores, less cache, and lower clock speeds.

The Valve Fremont device significantly upgrades CPU specifications:
– 6 Zen 4 Cores vs 4 Zen 2 Cores
– 12 Threads vs 8 Threads
– 3.2 GHz Base Clock vs 2.8 GHz Base Clock
– Up to 4.8 GHz Boost vs Up to 3.5 GHz Boost
– 16 MB L3 Cache vs 4 MB L3 Cache
– 6 MB L2 Cache vs 2 MB L2 Cache

The GPU is a Radeon RX 7600 “RDNA 3” with at least 8 GB of dedicated memory, compared to the Steam Deck’s 8 RDNA 2 compute units.

In performance tests using Geekbench 6, the Valve Fremont scored 2412 points in single-core and 7451 points in multi-core, demonstrating almost double the performance of previous consoles like the Valve Galileo (Steam Deck OLED) with a 4 Core Zen 2 CPU at 3.5 GHz.

While the exact SoC used for Fremont remains uncertain, it is likely to be based on AMD’s next-generation architecture and could feature something beyond the Aerith Plus SoC currently rumored for the Steam Deck 2.
