A number of reports indicated that Verizon customers were experiencing issues with making calls or texts from their devices. If you’re facing similar problems, it’s not due to your device; rather, a software issue has caused the outage. The U.S. carrier confirmed this and stated that restoration efforts have already begun.
More than 23,000 customers reported losing Verizon’s cellular service during an outage that occurred on a Saturday. According to data from Downdetector, at its peak around 12:38 AM, the number of affected customers reached over 23,000. Approximately 60 percent of reports came from mobile devices, with the remaining 40 percent noting no signal.
Customers reported their phones being in SOS mode or having no reception for hours. Verizon issued a statement acknowledging the issue and apologizing for any inconvenience, directing users to visit their Check Network Status page for updates on service in their area. However, customers remain unsatisfied, with some complaining that the carrier does not provide proper communication channels during software updates and suggesting compensation should be provided.
This isn’t the first such incident; The Independent reported a similar outage in October 2024, with Down Detector recording over 100,000 reports. Fortunately, Verizon is regularly updating its customers. A post on X mentioned that service was slowly being restored in some areas.
