The Nexus Mods page for Borderlands 4 now hosts 20 mods. While some of these are typical Unreal Engine tweaks that often promise but do not deliver reduced stuttering or hitching, others can be more useful. For instance, removing the start screen and introductory videos can be achieved by deleting specific files located in the OakGameContentSplash and OakGameContentMovies folders within the main Borderlands 4 folder. However, since these files will be restored with any new update, it’s better to add the following command line arguments to the game’s launch options: -nostartupmovies -nosplash.
On the Nexus Mods page, Akelaphobia created a ReShade add-on that allows players to toggle various visual effects on and off using predefined keybindings. These include toggling HUD (Caps Lock), damage numbers (F1), speed lines (F2), almost all outlines (F3), loot outlines (F4), loot beams (F5), loot glow (F6), hurt/bloody vignette (F7), healing vignette (F8), healing orbs (F9), tracers (F10), bloom (OEM [, left bracket), and fog (OEM ], right bracket).
The mod is very easy to install; users need only extract the contents to the game root folder. They can then use keybindings to disable the effects as desired. To change keybinds, press the Home key to bring up the ReShade UI, navigate to the Add-ons tab, select Edit under ShaderToggler to choose a new hotkey, and save all Toggle Groups.
User Caites has also created several mods that aim to tweak various aspects of the game’s difficulty. These include adjusting experience, damage dealt and received, loot, and cash separately; improving weapon stats such as fire rate and decreasing recoil; doubling or quadrupling mission rewards; enhancing repkits (a new gear type that heals and buffs characters); and removing the fog of war from the in-game map.
Many more Borderlands 4 mods are expected to be released over the coming days and weeks, with particular attention on the removal of the 30 frames per second cap during in-game cutscenes.
