Earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed that the prices of Xbox Series X and S consoles would increase globally. Today, they announced another price hike for these consoles, effective October 3, 2025.
Microsoft did not specify the exact reasons for the price increases but cited “changes in the macroeconomic environment.” They reassured customers that these changes were made with careful consideration and noted that prices of accessories like controllers and headsets will remain unchanged. The price increase is limited to the US market, suggesting that tariffs under the current administration could be a factor.
Here are the new prices:
– Xbox Series X: $649.99 (increased by $50)
– Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Special Edition: $799.99 (increased by $70)
– Xbox Series S 512GB: $399.99 (increased by $20)
– Xbox Series S 1TB: $449.99 (increased by $20)
It’s worth noting that while Microsoft is not the only company to increase console prices, Sony recently raised the price of the PS5 in the US by $50. Nintendo has only increased the prices of its accessories but may raise the console price in the future.
These increases won’t likely boost sales significantly. Even if the consoles are reportedly profitable, the small number of units sold each week makes the additional revenue from these hikes inconsequential.
